Burton’s Family Tree range of freeride snowboards is ever-changing, and 2018/19 is no exception. For the likes of the Mystery Malolo, Dump Truck and Panhandler, it’s a case of ‘one and done’ – and in their place comes, among other things, the Burton Stun Gun snowboard.
The Burton Stun Gun is not far removed from the Dump Truck, with the same setback camber profile, and carbon-enhanced fibreglass among the similarities. It’s a bit less tapered, though, and the size range tops out at 158 rather than 163. It’s softer, too.

So while it’s still built for powder, it’s not an unforgiving beast (one of the chief criticisms of its predecessor). There’s power when you need it thanks to the profile, but it’s not built just for speed. In fact, when you’re cruising on piste it’ll feel a little more like a conventional twin shape, thanks to the placement of the bindings in relation to the sidecut.
The Burton Stun Gun belongs in the backcountry, though, where its lightweight construction, tapered tail and big, shovel-like nose can keep you afloat in any situation. Falling somewhere between the relatively conventional Burton Trick Pilot and pow-specific Burton Bottom Feeder, it’s got a lot to offer the all-rounder.
