Inspired by a Craig Kelly pro model of old, Burton now releases an insanely high-spec snowboard each year. Recently it’s been a new take on an established classic; last year it was the Malolo that got the treatment, but for 2018/19 it’s the turn of the Fish. The end result: the Burton Mystery Fish.
Not everyone will be persuaded to part with so much cash, but if any board in Burton’s range could do it then it’d be the Fish. This ever-popular powder stick has the perfect shape and profile for the deep stuff, without losing its usefulness on less bountiful days.

Staying on top of things is easy thanks to the flat profile and its long rockered nose, and its shorter, wider outline helps out too – even before you take the 3cm of tapering into account. It has always been lightweight and maneuverable, and this year it’s been kicked up a notch.
The ‘Mystery’ glass delivers the most weight saving possible without compromising on strength, and the base is as top shelf as they come, too. It’s essentially a ‘concept’ snowboard; you may well be looking at the future of Burton’s manufacturing process.
Interestingly, there’s no regular version of the Fish for 2018/19 – it’s presumably being given a breather. So the souped-up version is the only game in town, but if your pockets are deep enough then you’ll feel like you got your money’s worth with the Burton Mystery Fish.
