Union Force 2018-2019 Snowboard Bindings Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Union Force here

The crew at Union are the masters of making a lower-priced pair of bindings that look, feel and ride like they should cost a whole lot more – and nowhere is this more true than with the Union Force.

As well as sparing your wallet an early hit, the Union Force snowboard bindings are also famously robust. For the rider that’s about to embark on a winter in the mountains, and doesn’t want any nasty surprises for the bank balance, bets don’t get much safer than this.

The highback looks a little intimidating, as well it might. If you attempted to jump the Union Force in a dark alleyway, you’d come off worse. This thing is tough, and no amount of no-fall-zone descents or knuckled landings are likely to bother it long term.

The Force was actually the first Union model to feature the extruded aluminium heelcup, a feature that has done a lot to help earn that sterling reputation. Backed by a lifetime warranty, it’s light as well as strong – and you can say the same for the magnesium strap buckles.

We’ll finish by looking once again at that price. With everything from liftpasses to sandwiches costing more each year, it’s reassuring to know that you can still get tried and tested quality without parting with a fortune.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthiewhitelines.com

“Strong as an ox! If you want something that can keep going after multiple seasons’ worth of abuse, bets don’t come much safer than the Force.

“These are quite stiff, so feel a lot more suited to charging than messing about”

These are quite stiff, so feel a lot more suited to charging than messing about. As you can probably tell just by looking at it, there’s not a whole lot of flex in that highback. Not a bad thing, of course.

While the straps aren’t hugely techy, they do their job well without any danger of pressure points. You can find more effective shock-absorbing elsewhere, but they’re not far off the industry’s best – especially when you consider the price tag.

Naturally there’s a real ‘solid’ feel to these, which won’t be to everyone’s taste, but if you lean more towards the reliability of aluminium over the malleability of urethane, then these won’t let you down.
