Once again, Salomon has handily differentiated between the Salomon First Call snowboard and its identically-shaped older brother, the Salomon Sick Stick, via the graphics. It’s another retro paint job for this one in 2018/19, and a closer look only makes it more appealing.
Essentially, the Salomon First Call is a downgraded Sick Stick. You get all the benefits of its freeride-meets-freestyle shaping – courtesy of Wolle Nyvelt, who knows a thing or two about both – but in a simpler, more affordable package.
“Which size you go for depends on what you want it for, rather than your own dimensions”

There’s still a lot of impressive stuff going on here. The base, while not as techy as that of the Sick Stick, is still sintered, and the core has the same varying thickness for increased pop. Basalt stringers run the length of the board, increasing the longevity of the Salomon First Call.
Which size you go for depends on what you want it for, rather than your own dimensions. The shortest is actually also the widest, making it an ideal short ‘n’ stubby model, while the longer versions are better suited to more conventional freeriding.
If you’ve got some extra cash then the Sick Stick is also worth a look, but in its short life the Salomon First Call has earned plenty of its own plaudits too – just check out our tester’s review below.
