As outerwear collections move further into the high-spec, backcountry-focused market, bib pants tend to dominate (understandably so). However, not everyone wants the extra weight and expense that come with the dungarees look, and will gladly put their trust in their jacket’s powder skirt as they opt for a more traditional pair of breeks.
One of our favourites for this year are these, the Holden 3L Burn snowboard pants. A lightweight shell design that’s perfect for long hikes (more on which below), these are aimed at the adventurous rider but wouldn’t be considered overkill for resort use either.
“A tough, weatherproof protective layer that also gives your skin a chance to breathe when things warm up”

The 3L in the title refers to the triple-layered nature of the Japanese nylon fabric. The result is a tough, weatherproof protective layer that also gives your skin a chance to breathe when things warm up. When it gets really toasty, or the hike is getting the better of you, opening the large meshless vents allows air to pass through and cool you off.
Like all Holden pants and bibs, the 3L Burn pants come with fully taped seams. More durable and better performing than the critically-taped alternative, it’s a must-have feature for any backcountry focused pair.
Both cuffs are reinforced with Cordura, a hard-wearing material that protects against wear and tear when you’re walking. While it can be found all around the cuff, it’s concentrated at the back where damage is more likely to occur.
