Head Seven Boa 2018-2019 Snowboard Boots Review

What's in the box?!

We’re not sure what the Head crew have against even numbers, but their boot-naming system is one of the easiest to follow. Beginners can choose the One for no-frills functionality, while more experienced riders can skip past the Three and the Five to this: The Head Seven Boa snowboard boots.

If you like a more supportive, responsive model packing plenty of tech, the Head Seven Boa fits the bill. With 11 degrees of built-in forward lean it’s made for charging, yet isn’t ruthless on your feet in the way that some of its kind can be.

“New for this year is a moisture management system that uses coffee grounds”

The comfort level is primarily achieved with the liner, the most advanced in Head’s arsenal. The multiple customisation options ensure a better-fitting boot, which in turn makes life easier for your feet. A velcro strap lets you fine-tune the fit of the toe box, while a simple-but-effective quick-lace does the rest.

New for this year is a moisture management system that uses coffee grounds to absorb, and then remove, any build-up of sweat in your feet. That can make a huge difference to your comfort levels – as well as those of the folk sharing your apartment.

If you like a stiffer feel, you can place an insert into a pocket on the liner, increasing the rigidity. Then once you’re blasting the pistes, a triple-density insole manages every bump in the road, from general vibrations to bigger impacts. There’s extra padding under the heel, where it’s most needed.

As for the outer shell, we’ll admit that the Head Seven Boa boots have a pretty unorthodox look, but everything’s there for a reason. The Boa coiler is targeted at the instep area, where it can be most effective, while the powerstrap gives you maximum support at your shin (or less, for the days when you feel like dialling it back).

Weight has been kept to a minimum thanks to Head’s unique welding process, but there’s been no compromise on durability. Even when you’ve been hammering these all season, they’ll retain their suitability for hard charging.

The price of the Head Seven Boa has actually come down a little for 2018/19, giving you all the more reason to consider a pair for the coming winter.

Trade Secrets

Sina Candrian – team Rider, Head

“The Seven Boa is my favourite pick, because it’s a rather stiff boot but at the same time very comfortable – even from the first time on. It doesn’t need the “get the boot softer” runs to get used to it!

Because of the Boa speed lacing system, you do not have to fumble with laces in the cold before dropping in – another big plus!

The feeling on the snow is pretty direct and fast – perfect for some nice turns on the slope,or hitting jumps.

These are definitely boots that I can recommend to all-mountain shredders!”
