These are strange times we live in, where some of the most innovative snowboard videos on the interweb are also the ones most likely to make you feel a bit queasy. Such is the nature of 360-degree capture – an emerging new format that, while often a little gimmicky, is also setting new standards for filming on the mountain.
Leading the way is the GoPro Fusion action camera. With its back-to-back lenses, it can record literally everything as you ride. What you do with it then is up to you; go full tiny-planet, track one subject perfectly, or embrace your inner surrealist by mixing various techniques together.

If you want a more traditional-looking video, it’s all in the post-production. As long as you were fairly close to your subject, you can eke out a followcam clip that’s way more stable than anything previously achieved with a standard action cam on the end of a pole.
With a bit more practice you can experiment with Tim Humphreys-esque lunacy, of which the limits still haven’t been reached. These kind of videos are still in their infancy, so there’s plenty of potential to be mined from the Fusion.
Sadly there’s no super-slo-mo option yet, but the 60 frames per second is fast enough for most on-hill uses. Drop down to 30fps and you can film in whopping 5.2K resolution. This does mean that you need a decent editing rig, so bear that in mind.
