Bad news for fans of the Burton Custom Twin – the freestyle-focused version of the best-selling board of all time has been retired. In its place comes this, the Burton Custom Kilroy. It’s a different beast, but one that we’re sure will find its own following soon enough.
“The Burton Custom Kilroy is slightly less techy than the regular Custom”

The Burton Custom Kilroy is slightly less techy than the regular Custom; the core isn’t quite as light, there’s no layer of carbon or extra-grippy ‘Frostbite’ edges, the base isn’t as tech and it’s a little softer between the feet. It all adds up to a looser, more forgiving ride that better suits the Kilroy image. After all, the Custom is great, but not everyone wants that level of precision all the time.
Yes, it’s slightly directional in its design, but as the young Kilroy crew have proven, it’s still more than capable of tearing up the park. Unless you’re really anal about having a perfectly-balanced ride both regular and switch, you’ll get on fine with this.
We doubt the visiting American GIs could have foreseen that the Kilroy character would one day end up on a snowboard (or two snowboards, once you factor in the Burton Kilroy Process), but that big-nosed goon is sure to plant its flag on mountains around the world in 2017/18.
