The Ride Helix first grabbed our attention in its inaugural season, when it proved to be an even finer park board than the one it replaced (the much-loved Ride DH). Better yet, it excelled elsewhere on the mountain too, making it one of our top all-round choices.

For 2017/18 the Ride Helix has been softened a little, but it’s still got plenty of strength and power where it counts thanks to a cleverly constructed core. Wood-wise it’s a nice lightweight mix of paulownia, aspen and bamboo, but there’s also four ‘Slimerods’ at work. These part-carbon, part-urethane additives are laid over the nose and tail of the Helix to improve its pop without making it too rigid overall.
There’s more carbon directly under your feet too, channeling energy into the edge for increased response through the turns. It’s the mellower of the two lay-ups that Ride offer, though, which better suits its freestyle sensibilities.
