The woman on the front of the 2017/18 DC Media Blitz is faring a little better than the blood-splattered one from last year, but otherwise Torstein Horgmo’s pro model remains as brutal as ever – in a good way, of course. Only the most sure-footed freestylers should be sniffing around this one, but if you’ve got the chops then the DC Media Blitz has the potential to send you into the stratosphere.

“It’s pretty darn stiff, but with the DC Media Blitz you get out what you put in”

The ‘Impact Core’ of the DC Media Blitz is, as you may have guessed, built to take a thrashing. A combination of poplar and beech wood can handle knuckling a 100-footer or coming down hard on the gnarliest gap-to-rail, with the reinforcement concentrated at the edges.

It’s also got carbon stringers running from end to end to increase the pop, which is already in plentiful supply thanks to the camber profile. You really need to give this some welly, as it’s pretty darn stiff, but with the DC Media Blitz you get out what you put in. Ride it properly and this will pop with the liveliness of a baby rabbit, and the power of a Clydesdale.

As well as getting airborne as much as possible, the DC Media Blitz should also be ridden at full throttle – its natural habitat is either flying over a park booter (having made full use of that pop) or melting towards one on its sintered base. The triax fibreglass is ideal too, as it’s more responsive than the biax equivalent and therefore more appropriate for aggressive riding.

“The focus of this true twin snowboard is definitely on freestyle”

You can, of course, razz it around a resort if the park’s not looking good, but the focus of this true twin snowboard is definitely on freestyle. That’s a broad church, of course, so we’ll reiterate; those wanting something that’s a bit more suitable for messing around on smaller jumps and rails may find this a bit of a handful.

If you’ve paid your dues in the park, however, the DC Media Blitz should definitely be on your radar – then when you find a suitably-sized jump, maybe you’ll be on NASA’s…

Tester’s Verdict

Sam Oetikeronboardmag.com

“As the pro model for Norwegian powerhouse Torstein Horgmo, you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the DC Media Blitz snowboard before even stepping on it.

“Definitely aimed towards the more advanced rider who wants to step up to some big features in the park”

With one of the stiffest flexes in DC’s freestyle snowboard line-up, this one’s definitely aimed towards the more advanced rider who wants to step up to some big features in the park.

I found that it was rather stiff torsionally and a little softer nose to tail, which made it feel lightning fast from edge to edge, while maintaining a degree of pressability.

There’s no doubt it would be a fantastic kicker board, and the blunted tips mean you can ride it a couple of centimetres shorter than you usually would, to help squeeze in those last few degrees of rotation.”

Trade Secrets

Dave Appel – Director of Snowboarding Hardgoods, DC

Torsten first approached us with the idea to ride the shortest board possible while dominating contests, park laps and even in the streets. We started there by drastically reducing the tip and tail lengths, while extending the running length of the snowboard.

With the aggressive rise in the tip and tail of the Media Blitz, there is an added bonus when spinning onto or off of rails, as they get out of the way.
