They say: The big ticket to years of progression.
We say: The Manual’s made for people with bigger than normal feet. People with big feet who want a good board at a very good price. Not the most tech stick in the world, but does pretty much everything pretty well.
Tester says: Nice price for what you get. Good having a dedicated wide model as well.

About Rome
- Building boards since: 2001
- HQ: Waterbury, VT, USA
- History lesson: Formed by two former Burton employees in 2001, Rome’s stated goal was the “corrosion of the corporate…by any means necessary”. Josh Reid and Paul Maravetz started the company after long stints in the industry, deciding that the business of building boards had stagnated and become too focussed on corporate bullshit. Rome offered to “bust out a king-sized syringe, depress the plunger and corrupt the system”. They’ve managed to keep their anti-corporate rep despite now being one of the biggest, most successful board brands in the world.
- Ridden by: Grungy young guns who duct tape the holes in their jackets cos they prefer it that way. And everyone in Scotland.
