The British Snow Tour officially kicked off this weekend…for those of you not in the know we did give you a pre warning about the Snow Tour Dates and info…

Anyway, it started off its ninth year at the Norfolk Snowsports Centre, seeing snowboarders riding… and wiping their way down the Protest Slopestyle, Giro Big Air and Trespass Snowboardcross Championships.

This year features an all-new three run, best run counts National Championship competition format, and the competitions had a massive total of 140 riders of all ages, the youngest little boarder, Harvey Ormerod is seven years old….nothing like a young’un to make you wonder what you’ve been doing with your own life….

The new Big Air & Slopestyle Jam sessions rocked out before each Championship event, giving spot prizes to the riders who pushed the boundaries on the slopes, before awarding an overall jam session winner from the under 16’s, over 16’s and Women’s categories.

Saturday kicked off with some serious snowboard action in the Slopestyle Jam with the under 16’s Matt Corry, over 16’s David McCarthy and Vickie Pullin riding for the girls walking away as the overall jam session winners.

The Slopestyle Championship had a bit more riding on it with British Championship titles and cash prizes up for grabs. The girls seemed to set standards for the day with 12 year old…(again with the young ones) Becky Menday winning the overall Protest Slopestyle Championship Title with a stylish run that included a solid 50-50 to boardslide over the bottom shark-fin rail.

In the men’s it was local Halifax rider Andy Nudds added to his winning streak with a run that included a switch up on the top rail, a 50-50 to backside 360 off, on the middle rail and a frontside boardside on the bottom shark-fin rail.

Sunday morning said hello to the Trespass Snowboardcross Championships with riders go head-to-head against the clock until only the fastest four male and four female snowboarders were remaining.

It was a head-to-head race out of the start gates for the women, but Gemma Marshall edged her way into the lead after the first set of rollers. In the men’s final it was another close race with Joe Gaze being wiped-out going into the first turn…on dry slope…but he dusted himself off and made an amazing recovering back into the race. Local rider Tom Moriarty managed to maintain his lead and take the 2010 Trespass British Snowboardcross Championship title.

The day came to an almighty end with the Giro British Big Air Championships. Katie Ormerod continued her top form in the women’s to win the Giro Big Air Championship title after she threw down a big and perfectly landed front-flip, whilst Andy Nudds stole his second first with a massive textbook backside 720, stalefish, and was crowned the overall men’s Giro British Big Air Champion.
