The British Snow Tour is getting around, having stopped at Norfolk last weekend, it has just made its first indoor stop of the series on Sunday 19th September at Glasgow’s SNO!zone for the Trespass Snowboard/Skiercross Championships and Rail Jam. (Where, incidentally the Freeze Shop Pro guys have just been kicking about, watch them here.) The SNO!zone was packed to the max with over 100 of the UK’s top riders taking part as well as the Schools Tour Team getting 100 enthusiastic kids taking part in the free taster lessons – (thanks to Trespass Learner Academy.)
Trespass Snowboardcross Championships and Rail Jam
The Trespass British Snowboardcross Championships kicked off the days events, with over 50 riders including Team GB members battled it out to the finals.
The Women’s final saw some good old inter-family competition, with cousins Katie Ormerod and Sophie Nicholls riding head to head untill the last set off rollers where Sophie took first place and the 2010 Trespass British Snowboardcross Championship title. Katie finished in close second with Sarah Fish and Jules Chappell finishing in 3rd and 4th respectively. The Men’s was another close race holding spectacle to some spectacular wipe-outs along the way. Team GB rider, Simon Nicholson took initial lead, but crashed out on a banked turn, giving local rider Marco Santi full advantage through to the final jump to take the 2010 Trespass Snowboardcross Championship Title. Second place went to the super dedicated Edward Castle-Henry who had spent 17hrs on a coach traveling up to Scotland to compete.
The afternoon action continued with the relaxed rail jam and its array of obstacles, including rookie boxes, gas pipes, rails and c-box’s. After a high standard 2 hour session, Jamie Nicholls (over 16’s) Matt McCormick (under 16’s) and Katie Ormerod (women) walked away as the overall Jam session winners.
Trespass Skiercross Championships and Rail Jam
The morning’s freeski action kicked off with the rail jam with rider’s throwing down technical 450’s-on 450’s-off and switch up’s on the impressive rail course set-up. Local skiers Chris Wadsworth and Cal Sandieson won the over 16’s and under 16’s overall categories, whilst Kelly O’Donnell came first in the women’s category.
In the afternoon the racers took on some high speed action in the Skiercross Championships, withhead-to-head heats of four going down the course until only the fastest remained. Anna Vincenti accelerated out of the start gates and into first place to dominate the Women’s final and take the 2010 Trespass Skiercross Championship Title. It was a close race for 2nd and 3rd with Becky Hammond and Tilly Jarvis racing neck to neck and Gail Ross finished in a respectable fourth.
In the Men’s final, freestyle skiier Josh Herant maintained the lead down the course and took the 2010 Trespass British Skiercross Championship Title. Second place went to Denzil Davies, whilst Jack Smith and Douglas Bryce finished in third and fourth respectively.
