The Details:

So varied is the world of snowboard construction these days that even ‘all mountain’ is a bit of a vague category. Some of them – usually directional twin in shape – are designed with an emphasis on the ride, but with enough wiggle room to take a few kicker laps when the mood strikes. Others are the opposite; park-slayers that are a bit more versatile when you hit the rest of the mountain. The Salomon Assassin is the latter.

First off, it’s a true twin, so if you’re not into tricks then you’ve come to the wrong place. A camber bend with flat section in the middle is definitely a good all-terrain choice, providing edge hold on hard-pack without being too sketchy on rails. Rocker at each end comes in handy in the powder too.

It’s got a very medium flex, so be aware of that when testing the sintered base’s limits, but generally this can hold up in all conditions, especially ones where freestyle is on the table. Wolle Nyvelt certainly thinks so, anyway.

Largely unchanged from last year’s version (and with good reason), this is definitely one for riders who love getting in the air, whether it’s on shaped kickers or side-hits. In those regards, the Salomon Assassin truly kills it.
