These days, what with Sky+, internet TV and all the rest of it, you can basically skip through adverts. In fact, unless you’re like me and you’re too cheap to pay for a Spotify subscription, there’s pretty much no need to ever watch or listen to adverts anymore. Which presents a bit of a problem for advertisers – how do you get kids to check out your products if they’re gonna skip past the promotional clips? The solution most of them have come up with is to make the adverts as entertaining as the main event. In fact, fuck it, make the adverts into the main event. Nike have been masters of this for a long time, since the days of their Cantona classic “Au revoir” ad. And now they’ve taken that approach into snowboarding. First we had Danny Kass being torn apart by the living dead, and now we have Gigi Ruf being hunted by a sinister football. Bit random for sure, but then who said adverts had to make any sense?
