O’Neill Evolution Halfpipe – Christian Haller & Kelly Clark Win

http://mpora.com/videos/FdIsiEVkN The O’Neill Evolution came to a close over the weekend, with local boy Christian Haller and American Kelly Clark taking home the halfpipe titles. There was some controversy in the men’s halfpipe finals, where Iouri Podlatchikov, who worked a double cork into his run, clearly thought he’d deserved the victory. As he came out the bottom of the pipe, he threw both hands in the air, claiming it in the most blatant style, and celebrating before hearing the score. The look on his face when the judges decided that ‘Hitch’ Haller’s run – which was bigger but didn’t include a double – was actually more deserving, was classic. Still, I-Pod took the decision in good spirits, and congratulated his room-mate and compatriot on the victory with good grace. He said: “Of course it hurts a bit. But it’s Christian. If it was someone else I would probably be more pissed right now.” Third place was taken by yet another Swiss rider, the 16-year-old Jan Scherrer. Jan, who goes to school in Davos, was clearly surprised and stoked as hell, saying “It’s such a huge result for me!” In the women’s competition, Kelly Clark dominated, boosting a whole lot higher than anyone else out of the pipe and stomping her run clean. Kjersti Buaas, another veteran competitor, rode stylishly and smoothly to claim third place, while Cilka Sadar divided the two members of the old-guard with a stylish and technical – if not massive – run, which landed her in second.
