O'Neill Evolution

The O’Neill Evolution is a 6 star World Snowboard Tour event that is held in Davos Switzerland. With big air and halfpipe events, O’Neill Evolution is a freestyle frenzy of progression every year.

Davos is know for hosting the world’s politicians for serious economic meetings, but once a year the O’Neill Evolution comes to town and talk turns to triple corks and prize money rather than double dip recessions and the eurozone.

The O’Neill evolution halfpipe event is always impressive but the event is well known as being one of, if not the best big air competitions. In 2013 Seb Toots was pushing it with double corks over the absolutely mammoth kicker but was upstaged by fellow Canadian young gun, Maxence Parrot, who threw down not one but two backside triple cork 1440’s to take the win. 15 year old Kyle Mack put down a frontside triple cork off the toes and claimed second. This trick prompted everyone’s favourite MC Henry Jackson to provide an Alan Partridge style commentary of “HOLY CRAP!! DID YOU JUST SEE THAT! DID YOU JUST SEE THAT!”

The great thing about this event is that it’s available to stream live online so you can be involved with the action as it happens and with the standard of riding constantly improving it’ll be interesting to see where things go at the O’Neill Evolution. In 2012 the event was won by Mark McMorris with a double cork, in 2013 you had to do a triple to get in the top 2, so does that mean we’re going to see quad corks in 2014? Or will things rewind with more emphasis being placed on style? Either way O’Neill Evolution is going to be an exciting event to watch for years to come.
