Burton High5 2011 Tamworth Highlights

Last weekend saw not one, but two big indoor events go down in the UK’s Snowdomes. They were probably still cleaning up in Castleford after the British Indoor Championships when the Burton bus rolled into Tamworth for the first stop of their High5 Tour. With three shiny new obstacles built specially for the tour (two of which will be up for grabs for the winners of the Golden Shovel shaping award) the park set-up was a pretty special one. And with some of the UK’s finest shredders turning up to ride, the competition (to quote the inimitable Sean Miller) was off the hook!

The women’s comp saw some rad riding, with Becky Menday narrowly being beaten to the top spot by Scottish shredette Orla Doolin, with Chloe Palmer a close third. In the men’s the competition was particularly fierce, with locals like John Weatherley and Ross Needham going up against visitors like Connor Carey, who’d come all the way down from Scotland to ride!

In the end, Ross’ steeze helped him into a well-deserved third place, just behind the man-machine that is Andy Nudds. First place went to Gareth Andrews, who seems to have been cleaning up at indoor comps this summer. His gap to 360s both ways on the down-flat-down rail had to be some of the session’s standout tricks. Once again, the Burton High5 Tour created a pretty special atmosphere, and with bags of sick prizes up for grabs again this weekend, it looks set to continue as the tour rolls into Braehead.
