If you like the look of the Salomon Villain, but want something a little softer and more forgiving (not to mention cheaper), this should be your first port of call. The Salomon Sleepwalker is a new freestyle deck for 2017/18, and despite the low price can deliver for those well suited to it.
“The Salomon Sleepwalker will give you what you need, and the core is built to take a beating all season long”
First let’s look at what it shares with its higher-spec brother. Both are true twin freestyle boards with ‘Rock Out Camber’ (essentially a camber profile with a flatter section in the middle, and rocker sections at the ends), so the park is definitely where this feels most at home. However, the sidecut and base are less techy, so don’t expect the same feeling through the turns, or the same straightline speed.
That’s not such a big deal, though; if you’re in the early days of your park life, or you’ve long since found your niche on the smaller features, you don’t need anything too fancy anyway. The Salomon Sleepwalker will still give you what you need, and the core is built to take a beating all season long.
The Salomon Sleepwalker works equally well as an affordable quiver board, or as your first foray into doing tricks. Serious park rats should also take a look at the Villain, but anyone below that level will get on famously with this.
