The Rome Marshal is, along with the Rome National, one of two new all-mountain designs that the Vermonters are debuting in 2017/18. The boards have quite a lot in common, but this one has a few unique characteristics that will be preferable to some riders.

Chief among these is the ‘FiveGnar’ sidecut, designed specifically for boards like the Rome Marshal that have a fully flat profile. A blend of sidecut radii (tighter in the middle and at each end, mellower at the feet) ensures that those who seek the edge grip and power of a classic camber profile won’t find it lacking in this zero-camber equivalent.
Like the National, the fibreglass in the Rome Marshal has carbon running from nose to tail throughout incorporated into a mix of 90-degree and 45-degree laminates. It’s a halfway house between uber-responsive and mellow, and therefore ideal for turning your hand to everything on the mountain.
No-one does pop quite like Rome, and the central carbon rod – tethered to the core at one end but free at the other to maximise the energy it can load up – helps you send it to the moon. The Rome Marshal is almost twin in shape, after all, so don’t be afraid to dip into your trick bag when there’s no pow around.
