Why we chose the Rome Lo-Fi Snowboard: The tech of tomorrow meets the timeless style of yesterday.

The Lo-Fi is a classic Rome board, back with a vengeance sporting a snazzy, new shape for 2020. For those girls who won’t take no for an answer, who demand the very best from their boards and who rip shit up harder than anyone else, the Lo-Fi might just be the board you’ve been waiting for.

“The long camber section between the feet delivers unmatched stability at speed”

Rome have blunted the tip and tail for this season, bringing down the swing weight. If you’re looking to turn threes into fives, you’ll feel the benefit of this. They’ve gone for a directional twin shape by adding some extra kick in the nose to keep your weight shifted down the board slightly.

Built with a hybrid modern camrock profile, the Lo-Fi has got the sauce to tear up the whole mountain with no dramas. The long camber section between the feet delivers unmatched stability at speed, unreal edge hold and an aggressive ride that’s begging to be ripped hard.

Small sections of rocker outside the contact points give the board smoother turn initiation and make it less likely to catch an edge as the snow starts getting cruddy (ride faster and harder without having to worry). This feature also helps the board float easier, so you can surf along without that horrific back leg burn kicking in. More performance, less effort – just what the doctor ordered.

They’ve beefed up the board with the addition of a single bamboo rod running from in between the bindings out towards the tip of the board. This helps to add some explosive pop to the board, and keeps it snappy from tip to tail without adding any stiffness edge to edge. You retain your playful freestyle feel, but turbo charge the board’s spring loaded camber.

The sintered base will keep you turning and burning through the day and is going to be there to make sure you don’t knuckle those kickers or burn out on the flat sections. Biax laminate keeps the board feeling fun and mellow, and allows you to pedal through turns easily when you want to.

Tester’s Verdict

Stella PenttiWhitelines

“Yes, yes and yes! This board is fast, which makes a crucial difference when spending your days riding with the opposite sex. For anyone who doesn’t feel like they have a powerful enough board to rip with, then the Lo-Fi is a good shout. Rome has done a great job re-shaping this board and making something that’s well deserving of our attention.

“It’s quick and sharp, with a hint of mellowness to it as well”

The Lo-Fi is aggressive, full of power, and you can go fast while making sharp edge turns. You can definitely tell that camber is the dominant profile, making this the aggressive thing it is. I felt I could literally ride through anything without having to worry about the board snapping. With rocker at both tip and tail you could easily stay afloat in powder too.

I reckon if you like aggressive boards that you can still have a playful time with, you’d love the Rome Lo-Fi. It’s quick and sharp, with a hint of mellowness to it as well. Apparently, I had a ridiculously big smile on my face while riding this thing. Amazing board.”

Trade Secrets

Matt Stillman – International Marketing Manager, Rome SDS

“The Lo-Fi is built for women who hit the hill no matter the conditions. Riders who demand a board that can handle whatever they find themselves standing on top of need the versatility of our Fusion Camber– the power and predictability of camber, with the forgiveness of small pockets of rocker outside the contact points. Add Bamboo Single Barrel HotRods, and you’ve got an all-mountain liberator with an unquenchable thirst for good times.”

Tester’s Verdict< 2018/19

Sarah Fishgypsysnowboarding.com

“I was on the camber version of the LoFi, and I was in no doubt that it had the fastest base I have ridden. When lapping Morzine’s baby stash with ‘the lads’ (who weigh a lot more than me), I was accelerating past them like the brown stuff off a shovel…..

“This board brought a big fat smile to my face”

As a park board it is happiest on jumps, offering so much stability in the air it felt effortless. Fast, carvy side-hit laps are a favourite too. It’s not as forgiving on rails and lacks jibby freedom – but remember that’s why they do a rocker version too.

If you have the need for speed and air time then this is definitely a contender – you will always be steaming ahead of the pack. This board brought a big fat smile to my face, and left me feeling like I was flying around the mountain.”
