The Rome Gang Plank is a modern classic of all-mountain freestyle, and this – the Rome Gang Plank Mini – aims to unlock the potential in every adventurous grom. It has a lot in common with its older brother, with a few tweaks that are just for the kids.

“The reduced pop compared to a camber board is compensated for by one of Rome’s ‘HotRods’ running down the middle”

The profile of both is the same; mostly flat but with some subtle rocker at each end for added pressability – not to mention a helping hand when trying to stay on top of the powder. The reduced pop compared to a camber board is compensated for by one of Rome’s ‘HotRods’ running down the middle. On the mini version it’s made from fibreglass rather than carbon, to give the young ‘uns half a chance of effectively loading it up with energy.

They’ve done away with the Basalt impact plates under the inserts – it’s pretty sturdy as is, so it’d take one hell of a beefy kid to need that much impact absorption when riding this – but they have carried over the QuickRip sidecut that offers extra contact points thanks to a blend of radii. It’s another factor that makes this a cut above most flat-based boards when it comes to nailing turns.

Finished off with a bomb-proof extruded base, the Rome Gang Plank Mini is a fine new addition to the ranks of grom boards.

Tester’s Verdict

Pingadwhitelines.com

“This was OK, but not my favourite out of the ones I tested. Maybe it was a bit stiff for me.”

Dad’s Comments

“This isn’t really a ‘kids’ board in the normal sense. It’s a proper board; solid, pretty stiff (again, when compared to other ‘kids’ boards) and basically tuned for a good teenage ripper. It was too stiff for the tester, who is admittedly pretty skinny and simply not used to riding boards this powerful.
So a really good board, but not for beginners. Probably would do well for a 14-year-old who has got ten years of shredding under their belt and can ride properly.”
