Ride Machete 2015-2016 Snowboard Review

Danny Trejo's favourite

UPDATE: See our review for the 2016/2017 Ride Machete here.

The Details:

The Ride Machete exists for the all-mountain rider who, whether it’s off a shaped groomer or a natural hit, likes to get in the air as much as possible. Thanks to its twin shape and essentially flat profile, it’s as versatile as they come.

There are subtle rocker sections just outside the bindings, meaning this will offer better performance in powder than a fully flat base. It also means you’ve got the option to slow things down once in a while and press the piste to your heart’s content, especially given its relative flexibility.

You don’t sacrifice much edge hold at higher speeds either, so it’s great for resort days and park laps – and the sintered base will carry you fast enough to sail past the knuckle or over the step-up.

There’s plenty of clever tech under the surface, too; carbon rods deliver a little extra pop, with urethane present in the core as well as the sidewalls provide enough dampening to keep your feet happy all day.

Add in more carbon in the form of stringers places underneath the bindings and you’ve got a solid-but-playful stick that really is build for anything.

TESTER’S VERDICT:
Duthie – Whitelines

“It’s always a bit weird putting in your first turns of the season on a board you’re unfamiliar with, but fortunately for me the Ride Machete really made it easy.

Both from edge to edge and from tip to tip, it’s bendy enough to manipulate and have fun with, but it never feels unsupportive even at high speeds. It pops well for a predominantly flat-based board too.

When testing this I was lucky enough to tick off all three P’s – powder, piste, and park – and it delivers on all fronts. It’s not one of the more exciting boards out there, but while it might not get your heart racing it won’t let you down either.

It was the wide version that I tried, and Ride have done a great job increasing the width without making it sluggish.”
