Fans of the old-skool rejoice, this true twin brings classic board feel with modern tech
Every few years snowboarding rediscovers its own past. Surf-inspired directional boards made a huge comeback a decade or so ago, and now it’s the turn of the 90s – all twin tips, steep kicks and graphics with attitude. Nidecker‘s answer is the Tape Deck, a brand new true twin that channels the spirit of the early TB years (look it up, kids). At the same time, it’s a proper modern snowboard under the hood, with all the performance the current generation demands.

“The Tape Deck’s outline is a love letter to mid-90s freestyle”
Who Is The Nidecker Tape Deck For?
Freestyle riders who like their tricks new school and their aesthetics vintage – think Nidecker’s recent team signings like Jed Sky and Sam Anderson. Whether you’re lapping the park, hitting street rails or buttering the piste, the Tape Deck’s grippy camber and roomy waist keep everything feeling stable – and bigger-booted riders get extra width as standard, without being saddled with a full-on wide model.
Shape, Profile and Sidecut
The Tape Deck’s outline is a love letter to mid-90s freestyle: a proper true twin with a roomy waist and a centred stance, so it rides identically switch or forwards. The blunt nose and tail carry a steep kick straight out of the Noah Salasnek playbook – perfect for jamming through kinks, boning out tail grabs and spinning off everything in sight, with maximum running length squeezed into a shorter, lighter silhouette.
Underneath, traditional camber runs the full length of the board, loading it up with ollie power and dependable edge grip that’s the industry standard for a reason. Waist width climbs steadily through the size run too – from 247mm at 147cm up to a generous 270mm on the 159W – so every model feels stable, and bigger-booted riders have plenty of options.

Construction and Materials
Inside, the Light Core is (you guessed it) the lightest in Nidecker’s range, mixing poplar and paulownia for a lively feel, with beech stringers running down the centre to add a touch more strength and pop. A biax fibreglass layup features extra glass than normal for sharper power transfer, while carbon inlays at the nose and tail smooth the ride and add even more snap. An N-7000 Hybrid base splits the difference between extruded toughness and sintered pure speed.
Then there’s the artwork. Each length gets its own reimagined old master – Van Gogh, da Vinci, Vermeer, Munch and Klimt (bonus points if you recognised that) all get the Banksy treatment with Nidecker’s own smiley face. It’s definitely one of the most head-turning graphic concepts of the year.
Roundup
The Tape Deck is more than a trendy throwback – it’s got proper substance underneath. Trad camber and a biax-and-carbon layup do the heavy lifting, and while the blunt tips are straight out of the 90s, that lightweight core is pure 2020s. Our tester found real edge grip and plenty of pop underfoot, and rated the whole package tons of fun. Throw in artwork that’s bound to get people talking on the chairlift, and the Tape Deck might just be the raddest new release since Nevermind.
Tester Verdict
Pat Nichols
“Great board with a true old school skate feel. Fantastic edge grip and plenty of pop, but you have to pressure it to initiate. Didn’t get to try it on rails, but from the vibe I’m confident it’ll be grand.I rode with boots slightly too stiff but still had a blast.”
