Why we chose the Nidecker Sensor Snowboard: It’s a sleek freestyle weapon

A cruisy jib board isn’t necessarily the first thing to cross your mind when someone mentions Nidecker. Well, this technically advanced carving board brand has decided to step out of their comfort zone and introduce the world to their Sensor board – and we for one couldn’t be more stoked. This freestyle friendly all-mountain jib board is made for the new generation who are, as we all know,  all about keeping it steezy.

“This all-mountain jib stick is ideal for throwing down flat tricks while keeping things both stylish and easy”

The Sensor is ideal for throwing down flatland tricks while keeping things both stylish and easy-looking. The classic camrock profile, with camber in between the feet and rocker at both nose and tail, has become one of the most common shapes out there due to its versatility.

With camber in between the feet you get increased edge hold due to the enhanced pressure on the contact points. You can also expect a lot of pop from the board thanks to this. The camber allows you to load up the board and as a result you’ll have a more explosive and snappy ride.

With rocker in both tip and tail, you still get a nice playful surfy feel to your ride, as the aggression of the camber profile fades out at the ends – ideal for buttering your way down the mountain.

The Sensor features Nidecker’s SideKick tech, which gives the board additional life under the contact points. In a nutshell, the SideKick lifts up the edges at the widest points of both nose and tail, resulting in increased float in powder, smoother riding in rough terrain and easier turn initiation. It also allows the board to spin off both edges easier, so nailing requires less effort.

This board is clearly inspired by the new generation of rippers; mellow jibbing on the slope, going big on sidehits, and simply having a great time. The Nidecker Sensor board works for anyone who’s up for a good time and views the mountain as a massive playground with endless opportunities for fun. If you’re looking for a cheeky partner to spin with, this board will definitely be down for getting involved.

Tester’s Verdict

Owain GeorgeTDC Snowboarding

“Fun, fun, fun!! That is what this board offered up for me. This thing wants your to press, butter, spin and get creative with your flatland game. It’s an area in my snowboarding that needs some attention so the Sensor was perfect for a few days of hot laps on the P4 chair lift in Tignes.

It’s soft, way softer than a board I would have in the locker, yet has pop for the side hits. The sidekick tech means you can just move into presses and butters with so much ease.

You feel the softness when you pin it through the choppy stuff, feeling everything transferring through the board up into your feet. On the groomers the camber underfoot helps to grip but I found it a bit too flappy when I wanted to charge.

If you love your flatland game and jibbing around resort, or are looking to improve your presses and butters, then the Sensor is definitely a board you should be thinking about for this winter.”

Trade Secrets

Seb Konijnenberg – Team Rider

“The Sensor isn’t just a park board: it comes alive blasting pistes and attacking sidehits. The freestyle camber makes it really ‘drivable’ on edge, but the Sidekick tech on nose and tail softens its attack, helping you butter like never before. It feels like you can spin as much as you want off either foot, but catching an edge is now just a bygone nightmare.

For me, the biggest surprise was that the Sidekick really helps pressing out jibs, enough to make all your friends jealous anyway! The Sensor is the freestyle board born to make your dream tricks come true”
