Why we chose the Nidecker Odyssey Snowboard: A female freeride board that the men now want to get their hands on.

A new addition to Nidecker women’s line – the Odyssey. This badass beauty will please the more advanced female rippers out there who’ve been longing for an aggressive yet surfy freeride board.

“The wide diamond shape in the nose adds further float to the board, while the short fishtail makes it easier to make tight turns in between trees”

This little ripper is designed to surf snow, zip in between trees and charge on the groomers. If you’re not accustomed to speed, you might have a hard time getting your turns in, but if you’re a certified charger this board will without doubt make sure you can rip dawn ’till dusk.

We’ve got the shape and profile to thank for the extraordinary performance of this board. The setback camber and rocker in nose, makes for the ultimate surfy feel. You get the power through your back legs for pumping turns, and the float from the rockered tip keeps you sailing through powder. This thing will keep you afloat better than any lilo ever could, while still providing a responsive ride with quick edge to edge turns. The wide diamond shape in the nose adds further float to the board, while the short fishtail makes it easier to make tight turns in between trees.

The ‘absorbnid’ topsheet of this freeride ferry gives the Odyssey even more response, while keeping the ride smooth as hell. In a nutshell, the absorbnid layer is designed to absorb unwanted vibrations and keep you turning and burning. What’s more, the carbon and Kevlar added to the board’s construction aid in dampening and soaking up chatter.

Carves like a queen, floats like a champ – the Nidecker Odyssey is a made for ripping. This board is ideal for laid back mellow freeriding, while also being a true champ when charging through the groomers.

If you’re looking for a fun little friend to ride switch with, then you might need to look elsewhere, but if you appreciate the advanced tech of this badass board then you’ll no doubt have the time of your life setting sail with it strapped to your feet.

Tester’s Verdict

Beth WakelingShredder

“Carves like a champ and floats like a charm. This women’s directional powder board is incredibly surfy.

“Carves like a champ and floats like a charm. This women’s directional powder board is incredibly surfy.”

A sturdy, firm nose paired with a washy tale makes carving banks feel like perfect cut backs. In the powder it’s light and does a lot of the work for you. The ref stance leaves the tail a little too short, it can definitely be brought in for a bit more control.

It has understated graphics, which, up close, are beautiful; a light wood grain nose is complemented by a matte and gloss embellished tail and a teal strip on the base. Be sure to wax it regularly, especially for its first outing!!”

Tester’s Verdict

“Oh wow – what a joy! I had the perrrrrfect day to test this, guiding a really good rider in an empty Sainte Foy due to an absolute dump from the skies (felt like we were in JaPOW). Due to the low visibility, we were forced to lap the world-class tree lines for 8 hours, stopping only for a 20 minute fuel injection. It was a gamble committing to a new board for the day but boy, was I glad I had.

“The tail was tiny, however riding switch to manoeuvre out of the odd sticky spot(!) wasn’t that difficult and I even enjoyed trying a few jibs on the piste at the end of the day!”

The lower lifts in Sainte Foy access open faces at the higher altitudes allowing for big surfy turns and slashes, with pillow pops here and ther ( while lower down, the trees become pretty tight – requiring a more technical approach). The set-back stance of the Odyssey allowed for the ultimate floaty feeling in the open terrain while the fact that I was able to ride the same size board as I usually would, even in these deep conditions, meant that tighter turns were as easy as a dream. What a nimble board this is.

The tail was tiny, however riding switch to manoeuvre out of the odd sticky spot(!) wasn’t that difficult and I even enjoyed trying a few jibs on the piste at the end of the day. The only downside would be the dry base which resulted in a few slow run-outs at day’s end. However what I noticed most about this board was the way Nidecker have blended the ease of riding big open faces with nippy tight tree runs all in one.. and all for women as well? Amazing!”

Trade Secrets

Sarka Pancochova – Team Rider

“The best thing about the Odyssey? It doesn’t feel like a watered-down men’s board, it’s in a league of its own. The nose rocker is forgiving, but the sidecut allows you to really drive home turns, perfect for both piste laps and powder missions. I got the chance to ride it in Japan last year and it was faultless!

You can definitely feel the surf influence in its design, when you find a bank or side hit it just begs for railed-out carves and hand-down manoeuvres. So sick as well for a women’s board to be turning men’s heads – the guys are now asking for this board in bigger sizes”
