Why we chose the Nidecker Liberty Snowboard: Pink to make the boys wink

Admit it, this is the board you’ve been eyeing at every opening, wondering how to get your hands on it. The pink colour and 80s graphics had us at “hello,” and we’re pretty sure they got you too. This board is sick – and not only because of the epic old school graphics, but also because, technically speaking, it’s brilliant.

“A short fish tail and lots of setback makes sure you can breeze through the trees with ease”

The Nidecker Liberty was first introduced to the world back in 1986 (hence its brilliant neon design). Reintroduced now, 13 years on, this blast from the past becomes the most laid back freeride board Nidecker’s ever had the pleasure to produce.

With a surfy camrock profile, fish tail, 60mm set back and a round pig nose, you’ll get everything you’d want from a powder board. The camber runs from the tail, throughout the mid-section of the board, offering you all the response you’ll need, while the long rocker nose provides a nice floaty feel. A short fish tail and lots of setback makes sure you can breeze through the trees with ease, whilst the nose gives it some extra float.

Despite this thing clearly being a powder board, you can still take it for a spin outside of the whiteroom. The camber profile provides great edge hold, so you can be sure this board will let you dig into the snow and lay out some clean carves too.

Speeding up on the groomers isn’t any problem either when attached to this badboy. The base is produced using carbon nanoparticles, which makes it Nidecker’s fastest and most durable base. Carbon and kevlar additions keep it responsive and help to saok up some chatter. The topsheet absorbs unwelcome vibrations, allowing you to blast through the bumps with ease.

Surfing through white fields of untouched snow, laying down a fine carve or steering snake runs through the trees – the Nidecker Liberty does it all, and does it well. This powder chaser is definitely one of the favourites for this season, and it’ll be catching eyes in any lift queue you find yourself in.

Tester’s Verdict

Mike BrindleyWhitelines

“The Nidecker Liberty contains within its sidewalls a lovely little combo of features that made it an ideal deck for my first turns of the winter. The tech is less loud than the graphic talking point, but does its job to a T. Perfectly executed directional camber with plenty of drive and power, and a flex that helps you flow around the mountain or wheelie out of trouble after those moments of first day hubris.

“Surfy, speedy and of course topped off with that classic day-glow graphic, freedom never felt so good”

Even for those who aren’t quite long enough in the tooth to remember the first incarnation of the Liberty, this thing feels like an old friend from the get go. Within no time you’ll find yourself embracing the nostaglia, picking lines together and weaving through trees and traffic alike.

Surfy, speedy and of course topped off with that classic day-glow graphic, freedom never felt so good.”

Trade Secrets

Sam McMahon – Content Manager

“Whilst going forwards into the future, it’s still important to keep an eye on the past. The Classic Series is Nidecker’s nod to the history behind the brand: established in 1887 and making snowboards since 1984.

“Most importantly though, it’s a reminder that snowboarding is all about fun, and nothing screams FUN like that fluro pink topsheet shining up at you from in the powder”

The graphic first appeared on one of the original Nidecker production boards and was used on the first top-to-bottom ride on the Mont Blanc. This modern take uses the same shape as the Mellow, but with a faster base and the most up-to-date materials – it’s the perfect pairing as the sidecut and profile are super surf-inspired, just like all snowboards were back in the day!

Most importantly though, it’s a reminder that snowboarding is all about fun, and nothing screams FUN like that fluro pink topsheet shining up at you from in the powder. So. Good.”
