UPDATE: See our review for the 2016/2017 Never Summer Proto Type 2 here.
The Details:
Most Never Summers are designed to be versatile, but the Never Summer Proto HD is the one the Colorado boys hold up as their true quiver killer. From park to pow and everything in between, having this under your feet should stand you in good stead.
The true twin shape is best for freestyle, and the rocker-camber base has its advantages in that respect as well. The rocker section between the feet makes it easy to lift up each end for pressing and buttering, and the camber sections under the bindings help you get the precise line for jumps and pipe. Away from the park they’ll grip hard trails while the rocker makes it easier to ride powder.
There’s far too much tech in the construction for us to list here, but one thing worth mentioning is the carbon layers that stiffen up the board from edge to edge, improving response without turning it into a plank. Also, when you’re at maximum speed the ride is smoothened by dampeners in the nose and nail that reduce vibrations.
If you’ve got the wedge for it, the Never Summer Proto HD could be your one-board solution for the next few seasons.
