Like Kazuhiro Kokubo himself, this is a board of few words – the thing speaks for itself. The Capita Kazu Kokubo Pro snowboard is aimed at replicating the graceful style of the man behind the board, whilst providing you a vehicle that will take you through the most demanding circumstances – and look absolutely exquisite while doing so.

This is a powerful powder board, aimed at those who want to rip as steep and deep as Kazu. The setback camber and directional shape will have you painting fat lines in the powder with ease. The setback will spare your leg from unnecessary cramps, which in turn will make you able to ride a bit longer without feeling like your leg might fall off.

The camber profile together with the superlight bamboo core makes this the powerful beast it is. A camber profile gives you a lot of pop, stability and aggression to your riding, while the mishmash core provides for ultimate ollie power and overall strength. Throw the stiffish flex to the mix and you know this board can take a beating, rest assured it’ll stand the test of time.

New for this year is the hyperdrive base. This Capita signature base, is custom made and exclusive to their Mothership factory. Thanks to the hard-working brains of the nerds in the factory, this specific sintered base has got exceptional antifriction properties. Add the custom carbon component to the mix, and you’ll get yourself a base that is beyond fast.

Making this board an even better choice for the powder chasing chargers out there is the sustainable Magic Bean resin system. Not only can you shred the deep, but you can do so knowing that this board has been made using 60% renewable material, making it a slightly more environmentally friendly purchase.

Tester’s Verdict

Paul WoolProfessor

“It has got carbon, bamboo, flax, all the tech of the day, but all that went out the window when I saw the graphics. Seriously, this board is beautiful, it has the most detailed Japanese tattoo imagery, with super vibrant colours and intricate detail. I didn’t know whether to frame it and hang it on the wall or ride it – ride it I did, of course I did, and I’m pleased to say it is not just a pretty picture. This board is a beast.

“Like the man himself, the Kazu is smooth, powerful and looks cool as hell”

I was lucky to get some untouched powder turns on this board, in about 8-10 inches of new snow. The sidecut is clearly made for powder and the bigger rockered nose makes it float and surf like a dream. The Camber seems to be set back pretty far which feels fantastic with the stiff tail, i was really able to sit back and let the board do the work.

Out of the powder, I was able to focus more on the board’s characteristics. You quickly notice this board has a lot of power. I liked the medium to hard stiffness, it has little torsional flex and has a particularly stiff tail. The stiffness combined with a super-fast base made this board great for going quick and turning at high speeds. You could really notice the base on cat runs, I was flying past people. Carving is exceptional on the Kazu. The camber is set far back and really allows for tight response yet still digging in and holding on with fast low carves. I didn’t get any chatter or speed wobbles, it felt solid under foot, very reliable.

The board jumped well on small stuff and bigger lines, side hits and ollies felt good. There are better boards to butter on, but who cares when it excels in every other department. Like the man himself, the Kazu is smooth, powerful and looks cool as hell.”
