The Bataleon Spirit is a confidence-inspiring, easy-going, board designed to boost your ego and max out your fun-o-meter. Perfect for those who are just getting into snowboarding, or for more experienced riders who want a playful, forgiving, ride.

It features a super mellow camber to give you enough response to get your edges in when you’re tearing up the piste, but is also subtle enough that it won’t force you into turns before you’re ready.

“The result is a super mellow, catch free ride that’ll stop the ‘oh shit I don’t wanna face plant’ panic as you’re snowboarding”

In our humble opinion Bataleon’s Triple Base is the ultimate learning tool, as it allows you to make mistakes and have wobbles without punishing you for it. A flat section in the middle runs the length of the board, with the side bases being lifted outside the bindings. The result is a super mellow, catch free, ride that’ll stop the ‘oh shit I don’t wanna face plant’ panic when  you’re snowboarding.

A soft flexing board with an easy-going extruded base, it’ll be nice and gentle over lumps and bumps rather than a Mach-10, rattle your fillings, death-defying day out. If that’s your jam, look to the stiffer boards in the Bataleon line.

The Spirit has a twin shape, so you can work on that switch riding with no dramas, but the inserts are slightly set back so you’ll get a bit more nose when you’re riding. Shifting your weight slightly to the back will allow you to put more power through your turns and make it a bit smoother on piste.

Snowboarding is meant to be fun and this is. No pressure, no stress, the Spirit will lift yours.

Tester’s Verdict

The Spirit is the most easy-going snowboard I have ever ridden, and makes me look back and wish I had one when I was learning to ride. It builds confidence quickly and allows you to make mistakes without kicking your butt – meaning you can focus more on technique rather than the crippling fear of the dreaded scorpion.

The Triple Base Tech profile here made it almost impossible to catch an edge, even when I was actively trying to. The turn initiations were super smooth but, on the flip side, this made them a little slower as well.

“The Triple Base Tech profile on it made it almost impossible to catch an edge”

The board was very manageable in terms of speed, and never once accelerated without me wanting it to. It was a bit too soft to carve properly on, but that’s not what you get this board for.

I was able to get some pop out of it, and the soft flex made it super fun to do flatland tricks on.

I can’t see a downside of this board for a newer rider or one who needs a mega confidence boost, but a more experienced rider will want to look towards the Feelbetter or Push Up instead.
