UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Bataleon Global Warmer here

We could probably count on one hand the number of high-quality, high-spec park boards out there with a mellow flex – and we’d save the biggest finger for the Bataleon Global Warmer snowboard. Proving yet again that stiffer doesn’t always mean better, it’s back in the Whitelines 100 for 2018/19.

The most noticeable difference from previous years is the shape of the nose and tail. Will they make much difference to your riding? Nope, but they suit the GW’s twin destroyer personality down to the ground.

“Buttering is a piece of cake thanks to the easy-going flex”

As for what you can’t see, there’s a hollow carbon tube running from one set of inserts to the other. While not making a big difference to the board’s end-to-end flex, it nevertheless releases a bit more energy when it’s pop time.

The usual carbon stringers between the two edges are still there, concentrated on either side of the bindings to give each foot a rigid platform. Edge changes are quicker and more stable, which is ideal when you’re staring down the XL booter line.

The Bataleon Global Warmer isn’t just for the big stuff though. Buttering is a piece of cake thanks to the easy-going flex, and the unique properties of Triple Base Technology play their part too. The width of the centre section delivers a fairly conventional ride, but the slight bevel on each side at the nose and tail make edge catches unlikely, and rail hang-ups even less so.

The 3BT effect is more minimal on the GW than on other Bataleon boards, as stability is more important than pow float when you’re on a park board such as this. It’s not so subtle that you won’t feel the benefits even when cruising a piste, though, especially with the raised ‘Sidekick’ edges at the widest points keeping things smooth through the turns.

“An accessible park board that can satisfy all levels of rider”

The price tag may deter some beginners from getting hold of the Bataleon Global Warmer, but it really is an accessible park board that can satisfy all levels of rider. Now available in more sizes than ever, it’s high time you tried one – and if you’re wondering what the name means, all is revealed below…

Tester’s Verdict

Dan Wilsonsnowfit.co.uk

“I got to ride this towards the end of the season in pure bluebird, and slaying slushy warm laps in the park with the Global Warmer was so much fun. With its softer flex you get immense freedom and playfulness without it feeling sloppy, which is perfect for those flatland tricks and butters. Yet it never felt unstable or out of control when pushing for some speed.

Using Bataleon’s signature Twin 3BT profile it offers that loose jib feel and a wide centre base for landing kickers and side hits. You can really make the whole mountain your playground, finding fun in every bump and hit along your ride.

In the Global Warmer you get a board that will offer something to riders of all abilities. It really does build confidence and help you push to that next level.”

Trade Secrets

Ryan Scardigli – Marketing, Bataleon

“We named this board the Global Warmer as a tongue-in-cheek response to the sustainability-marketing trend in action sports. A lot of brands like to toot their own horn about their environmental impact and how their boards are environmentally friendly, but as soon as you use industrial epoxy to glue your locally-sourced wood core to your recycled topsheets, package your boards in single-use plastic and ship them around the world… Well you get the point.

We care about the planet and want people to be more conscious about their choices and how they affect the environment, but we’ll never tell our customers that buying one of our boards is helping keep the ice caps from melting.”
