Who Are The Ortovox 3L Deep Shell Jacket and 3L Deep Shell (Bib) Pant For?

Made for the serious mountaineers, the 3L Deep Shell Jacket and Pants are aimed at freeriders and tourers. Offering full protection and high comfort, the outerwear comes at a lightweight making it even more convenient for discovering what lays beyond the beaten path.

Materials and Construction

By using wind and waterproof Dermizax high-performance membrane from Toray, Ortovox had developed a set of durable freeride outerwear available at low weight (women’s M jacket 554g and men’s M jacket 596g). The 20K waterproofing and breathability is designed to keep you dry from both inside and outside, thus making touring a more pleasant experience as the sweat can evaporate into the outside air.

Reflecting Ortovox’s ongoing commitment to the environment, and for added waterproofing, the brand also uses a PFC-free durable water repellent coating. This makes it easier for both water and dirt to run off the shell.

To protect the most cold-sensitive parts of the body, a layer of merino wool has been added to the membrane, i.e. in the chin and the chest area of the jacket.

Fit and Features

Both the male and female jacket and pants are available in a loose fit. Bear in mind though, this is a loose fit on the freeride scale and not your normal snowboard outerwear one (Ortovox describes their loose fit as a light, casual fit, with pant legs that are cut wider than regular and a lower crotch).

If you’re unsure about what bottoms to go for, both men and women can choose between normal pants and bib pants.

Equipped with a wide range of features that will come in handy when out and about, the Ortovox Deep Shell jacket comes with adjustable hems, a removable snow guard, a high collar and an adjustable storm hood.

The bibs are equipped with a long, two-way zipper making it easier to get in and out of the pants, whilst also providing for optimal ventilation. Both the normal pants and the bib pants come with a hip pocket and two extended thigh pockets and an additional light carabiner (avalanche transceiver loss protection) on the right.
