Why we chose the Dakine Kazu Kokubo Team Excursion GT Snowboard Gloves: Made to match Kazu’s riding, they’ll do the business in various conditions.
Teaming up with our favourite Japanese rider for another season, Dakine and Kazu Kokubo are bringing us one of the finest glove collabs on the snowboard market. Known for tackling the gnarliest backcountry drops and executing the finest turns in nipple deep snow, Kazu Kokubo needs gloves he can trust to last and that’s exactly what Dakine has delivered.
Building on last year’s green colourway, this season Dakine and Kazu brings us the Team Excursion Gore-Tex Glove in an earthy green design stacked with loads of fresh details and plenty of tech.
“Remaining true to his Japanese roots, it only seems fair that Kazu’s left the detailed design to a fellow countryman”
Remaining true to his Japanese roots, it only seems fair that Kazu’s left the detailed design to a fellow countryman. Hailing from the Three Tides Tattoo in Osaka, Japan, Ganji, the tattoo artist, has given the gloves a subtle cloud front-panel print, Kazu’s signature three-hand icon and a ‘KK’ star icon that’s been developed from his original raven logo.
This isn’t just a piece of fine art, as the glove is built to withstand the terrains Kazu himself ventures about in. Made with a Gore-Tex insert, Gore Active technology, and an added DWR coating on the goat leather palm – the glove is as waterproof as a snowboard glove gets.
Gore-Tex isn’t just a sign of quality waterproofing, it’s also a sign of good breathability. The breathability of the glove is, of course, crucial. The 170g PrimaLoft Insulation here, of which 55% has been made of recycled polyester, adds a lot to the glove’s warmth without making it sweaty and uncomfortable. The breathable Gore-Tex membrane pushes the water vapour created inside the glove out into to the environment, leaving your hands dry as a result.
We often forget how much work our hands do, which is why we shouldn’t forget about giving them some extra love at times. By adding a wool blend lining to the gloves, Dakina have made it so your hands can nest nicely within a soft lining.
With a subtle yet beautiful design, and quality tech to boot, the Dakine x Kazu Team Excursion Glove reflects the essence of the Japanese Snowboarder in a way that has easily earned it a spot in this year’s Whitelines 100.
