Who Is The Vans Hi-Country and Hell-Bound For?

They’re pretty damn aggressive when you add in the tongue stiffeners so you’ll have to be an experienced rider to make the most of them, and realistically although you can ride park with them, they’re more suited to big lines in the backcountry or charging on groomers.

Shell & Outsole

They use Vans’ high-end V3 UltimateWaffle sole, with an aggressive lug pattern for traction, arch cradle to boost energy transfer from toe to heel and a layer of UltraCush to dampen vibrations and absorb chatter. Still reminiscent of the classic Van’s waffle found in their skate shoes, but with the dials turned up to 10 for high octane performance and long-lasting durability.

Laces are the OG fastening system, simple yet reliable. Like a slice of pepperoni pizza, they don’t look too fancy but they get the job done, everytime. These are backed up by a powerstrap round the shin to keep the tongue flush to the liner, alleviating rubbing and stiffening up the boot on the toeside. But if you want to take it a step further, you can mix and match Vans Flex Control System- four removable tongue stiffeners so you can dial in the perfect flex.

Topped off with Vans waterproof shroud to keep snow from building up as you’re bootpacking or just hiking the jib line all afternoon. It adds an extra layer of protection across the instep too, so get your laces right and heel lift is a thing of the past.

“As comfortable as slipping on your old favourite sneakers, but way better”

Liner

Vans kit out the Hi-Country with their top of the range V3 Ultracush liner, which comes with a full neoprene forefoot, heal mouldable core, microsuede cuff, not to mention the North Face Flash Dry fabric to wick sweat. As comfortable as slipping on your old favourite sneakers, but way better.

The independent heel harness locks the liner into the shell of the boot, putting special emphasis on keeping the heel locked down. As such, it reduces wasted momentum and works with the anatomically designed footbed to alleviate foot fatigue.

If you’re someone who gets cold tootsies on the hill, then listen up. Vans boots use an upgraded thermal retention layer to reflect your body heat back into your boots, so there’s no wastage.

“Customizable boots are 10 a penny, but there’s not many out there with this level of personalisation”

Roundup

Customizable boots are 10 a penny, but there’s not many out there with this level of personalisation. Rock ‘em loosey goosey for days out jibbing in the streets, or beef them up for hard charging in the sidecountry. The world’s your oyster.
