Who Is The Nidecker Triton For?

Want a supportive boot that’s still tweakable enough to dial in those boned out front threes when you venture into the park? Don’t like the faff of old school laces? Step this way, sir.

Shell & Outsole

So, those tricks we mentioned earlier, that set the Tritons aside from other boots… The main one is the shape. Nidecker have made a lot of noise about their FlowFit lasts, which are made for a glove-like match with any binding. It results in a wedge-like look when viewed from the side and it really works – though as the name implies, you’ll really notice the difference if you run rear-entry bindings.

Together with a 3D molded tongue and an articulated zone near the ankle, the Tritons offer a middle-of-the-range kinda flex that will suit a wide range of riding styles and abilities.

There are two Boa dials to control the upper and lower part of the boot. At this price, most Boa boots only offer one dial, so the Tritons definitely earn some brownie points here. The laces are also textile rather than steel cables, so the overall feeling is that you’re getting a premium boot for less money.

The outsole is B.F.T. Nope, there’s no bacon involved (or big-eared giants, for that matter) – it stands for Bare Foot Technology. That’s a fancy way of saying that it’s anatomically designed so it feels like you’re walking around in sneakers, especially if you plump for the gum sole version (and we suggest you do, it’s sick).

Liner

The liner is fairly basic compared to Nidecker’s pricier boots, though we found it to be comfortable enough for a whole day’s riding with no foot complaints. It features an inner harness to keep heel lift at bay, and a 3D molded insole that’s made from single density foam (as opposed to the dual and triple density versions higher up the range).

Roundup

The Triton are a good value pair of snowboard boots whose main appeal lies in that double Boa system and some mighty good looks. If you’re on a limited budget and you need a comfortable, mid-flexing model that you can put on and off with the minimum of fuss then Nidecker might just have made your day.
