UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 adidas Tactical ADV here
When multi-sports behemoth adidas entered the snowboard boot game in 2012, it was no surprise to learn that they’d borrowed some tech from their expertise in other sports. By 2014 season they’d introduced their ‘Boost’ technology that’s also found in the preferred footwear of skater Dennis Busenitz and basketball star Derrick Rose, not to mention countless professional runners.
This new boot, the adidas Tactical ADV, is the latest model to feature their patented energy-returning cushioning. The foam may not look all that tech – if you’re thinking the look and feel of it resembles styrofoam, you’re not alone – but its effects on performance and comfort are not to be sniffed at. When you’re riding at full tilt, it absorbs the vibrations that can lead to foot fatigue. Furthermore, that energy is returned to the board as you ride, improving the speed and flow of edge-to-edge transitions.
“The integrity and effectiveness of Boost foam remains the same even when the mercury plummets”
The Boost foam is extremely resistant to the cold; unlike some of the more prolific cushioning systems on the market, the integrity and effectiveness of Boost foam remains the same even when the mercury plummets. Plus it’s light as a feather, which is always a plus.
