Switchback Halldor Pro 2018-2019 Snowboard Bindings Review

UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2019/2020 Switchback Halldor here

Switchback bindings are a bit like cocktails – if you change one ingredient, you can give it a whole new name. The Switchback Halldor Pro snowboard bindings share a lot of the same DNA as the Switchback Session, but the Helgason design tweak isn’t hard to spot.

It’s all in the highback; Halldor favours a winged version (otherwise known as a ‘wrapback’) that goes further around your calf than a conventional one would. The idea is to give you more support when pressing on park features, and if you’ve never tried it then you’ll love how effective it can be.

That does mean more material, but weight has been saved wherever possible via the two cut-outs. These also increase the binding’s overall flex, which will come in handy when you’re tweaking hard.

Elsewhere the Switchback Halldor Pro features the high-end AERON base, strengthened with aluminium and cushioned with EVA padding. As for the straps, the freestyle-friendly ‘Eames’ versions are a bit on the chunky side aesthetically, but there’s no questioning their support and comfort. The ratchets are buttery smooth too.

The whole thing is finished off with a graphic that pairs with the Lobster Halldor Pro snowboard. ‘Die When You Die’ – that’s good advice for all of us, right?

Tester’s Verdict

Tom Copseyonboardmag.com

“These felt slightly to the stiffer end of the spectrum, but weren’t so overly responsive as to impede on more mellow shredding.

“You have the feeling of your lower leg being hugged in a loving embrace, perhaps by a mustachioed Icelander”

I’ve always liked the limpet-like hold of Switchback’s straps, and when they’re combined with the winged highbacks Halldor added to these you have the feeling of your lower leg being hugged in a loving embrace, perhaps by a mustachioed Icelander. It’s super comfy, and helps with your presses a tad.

The full-footbed pad was super cush and helped dispense with any chatter, and when paired up with Halldor’s board they look great too.”
