Head have done away with the NX Five this year and brought a different beast to the market altogether. The NX Six is their most versatile, performance-focused binding.

The biggest talking point is the all-new Flexmaster 3000. We’re thinking they maybe let the intern choose the new name, but the concept itself is pretty interesting.

The highback flex can be adjusted, tool-free, by simply moving the position of the slider. When located at the top it gives you a stiffer flex, best suited for maximum power transmission to burn up the groomers. Slide it all the way down, and you’ll experience a much looser, surfy feel. Or simply find your happy medium somewhere in the middle. For rider’s who take on a bit of everything in a day and want to get the most out of their setup, it’s a pretty effective solution.

Wherever you strap in, the Auto-Open system makes the Six look like an old friend welcoming you with open arms. It allows both the toe and ankle straps to fully hinge open and move completely clear of the baseplate. Less clutter means faster strap-ins which, of course, means first dibs on dropping your line.

Head have also managed balance comfort and response with their dual-density ‘Dampliflex’. The two foams work in harmony to reduce vibrations underfoot and allow for a more natural flex of the board, whilst still keeping power transmission nice and sharp. In short, you’ll ride with increased feel and better accuracy for way longer.

Tester’s Verdict

Owain GeorgeTDC Snowboarding

“My first thought on these bindings was one of confusion (the visual aspect of the ‘Auto Open’ strap set up blew my mind).

The concept is to make strapping in easier and quicker. Personally I don’t feel that area of snowboarding needs innovation like this but I can see how it might help a rider that does struggle with getting down to strap in.

I found that riding one-footed, off lifts or on a drag lift the straps would sometimes get under your foot creating an uneven base to stand on.

Once I had got the visual aspect out of the way and started to ride the NX Six I found they did exactly as they said on the tin.

The extra dampeners through the base plates are noticeable when landing side hits and kickers, and the straps allow the bindings to be responsive when changing edge to edge.

Flexmaster 3000 might sound like a disco loving house DJ from the mid 90’s but in fact, it’s Head’s new ‘customised flex adjuster’ addition to the NX Six. The idea is simple, allowing you to adjust the flex of your high back with a simple slider design.

“The NX Six offers an intermediate/advanced binding with some quirky technologies for a great price”

It’s kinda cool, giving you the option to change your flex as you move from aggressive carves to playful butters, but I feel there needs to be a bit more refinement.

Actually that’s the feel I get from the binding as a whole. It delivers what it says but doesn’t quite have the feel or responsiveness that other premium bindings offer.

The NX Six offers an intermediate/advanced binding with some quirky technologies for a great price and the ‘auto open’ straps will defo get some looks and chat in the lift queue if you like to stand out from the crowd.”
