Burton Genesis 2019-2020 Snowboard Bindings Review

Why we chose the Burton Genesis Snowboard Bindings: One of the best all-rounders on the binding market.

The Burton Genesis snowboard bindings have earned their place in the Whitelines 100, fair and square. This exquisite specimen is a bit pricier than your average Burton binding, and with good reason. If you’re looking for sturdy,  comfortable, all-rounders that provide both precision and playfulness then these bindings will be a fine addition to your snowboard.

With a baseplate that is soft in the middle but firmer on the sides, you can be sure to get a comfortable yet responsive ride. The 3B Gel makes sure your feet won’t be bothered by any quivering, while the rest of the cushioning in the baseplate automatically adjusts your feet into an ergonomically beneficial position – something that might please those suffering from any knee pain.

The highbacks are made out of a blend that allows them to be both strong and flexy, making the bindings the solid pair of versatile all-rounders they are. With a kickback hammock behind the heel (a lighter version of the heel hammock) you’ll get even further response and a better overall feel for your ride.

With a supergrip capstrap 2.0 you can be sure your feet won’t be longing to leave these bindings after only a couple of laps. The toe straps are made out of a combination of two different materials that provide both comfort and impeccable boot wrap.

“These bad boys will bring out the best in you, whether it was in the park, pow or on the piste”

Make sure you choose the right version of these though. The ESTs are only compatible with Burton’s Channel system, while the Re:Flex’s are compatible with all the major mounting systems.

If you want to reach your full potential on the mountain, you have to match the board with a good pair of bindings. The Genesis’s are just that – existing as one of the best all-mountain bindings on the market. These bad boys will bring out the best in you whether it’s in the park, in the pow or on the piste.

Tester’s Verdict

Rob McCreathWhitelines

“I’d always been under the impression that the Genesis was stiffer than a priest in a playground, but I think I’d had it confused with the carbon injected, supercharged Genesis-X.

It was maybe the biggest surprise for me this season and within a run became my new favourite binding from Burton – a big claim, especially as I’ve been riding Cartels for the last three seasons.

The Kickback Hammock is incredible. Don’t compare it to the likes of the Malavita, this thing’s in a different league. It’s complete suspension, wrapping the back of your boot and delivering super smooth response when you’re railing a carve.

I thought it coupled really nicely with the medium flex of the baseplate. It’s nowhere near as stiff as some of the other high-end models from Burton but delivers ample power transmission between the edges.

I rode the EST version which I’d say is the winning interface for the Genesis. You get a little more natural flex when you’re moving between the nose and tail so, foor locking in a press or riding off the back of your board, it leaves you feeling completely connected to the baseplate and not like you’re fighting against it.

The straps are, as always from Burton, up there with the best. Minimal, lightweight but no pressure points whatsoever and a really conforming grippy fit. As I’ve said before, I’m not a huge fan of the double-take system – I find it adds unnecessary bulk to the buckles and doesn’t feel like it gives me any more of a secure fit, though it’s far from a deal-breaker.

I’d say any ability of rider will get on with these, but they’re a far cry from the carbon-clad, razor sharp perfmance zingers sitting alongside the Genesis on the top shelf. These ones are all about feel, comfort, and those sweet, smooth, turns.”
