It’s becoming more and more common for people to invest in safety on the slopes, hence the rising interest in snowboard protection gear. By snowboard protection, we at Whitelines are referring to back and upper body protection. Here, we’ve outlined what in our opinion are the best snowboard protections for winter 2021/22.
This list, it’s worth pointing out, does not include helmets so if that’s what you’re looking for take a look at the best snowboard helmets for 2021/22.
Choosing the right protection equipment is important. Protection means you aren’t just minimising the chance of injury through your own tumbles and bails, you’re also minimising the consequences of someone else crashing into you. There are, of course, always beginners on the slopes who haven’t necessarily learnt to turn or brake yet and there’s a chance that you’ll become collateral damage in their learning process. Not ideal.
“Snowboard technology has come a long way since many of us first strapped in for the first time”
Snowboard technology has come a long way since many of us first strapped in for the first time. Putting on a bulky back protector was one of the most uncomfortable feelings we had ever come across and, after giving it a go a couple of times, the majority of us will have quickly ditched them.
Now, as we enter a new decade, we would highly encourage you to give the modern-day back protector a chance. Thanks to modern technology, you won’t be putting on a bulky heavyweight thing that restricts your movements and takes away the freedom and fun of snowboarding.
Instead, you’ll be dealing with lean lightweight protection which you’ll forget you’re even wearing – until, that is, you catch an edge on an icy slope and fall flat on your back. At that moment, you’ll appreciate the protection.
Whether you’re looking for something thicker or something more lightweight like a protection vest, we’ve listed our top snowboard protection gear for 2021/22. Take a look below and choose your favourite.
