Who Is The Moonchild Malibu For?

You’re an experienced rider who’s looking for something a little different to whet your whistle. Chances are you’ve moved on from riding rails in the park and have probably tried an abundance of boards over the years and now you want something that’ll rip pow and piste with aplomb.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

It’s quite clear at first glance where the Malibu is built for riding, the shape alone marks it out as a snowboard that will make a name for itself in the deeper snow. With almost 3cm of taper running from nose to tail and a curvaceous 26.6cm waist width, the Malibu is gonna float is pretty much anything. Add in the big old rocker in the nose and the setback and you’ve got a powder cannon that’s primed and ready.

But funnily enough, it’s also these same features that make it such a trench digger on piste. The width allows you to lay out a carve without catching toes, add in the nifty sidecut plus the pin tail to let you drive and slash with your back leg, and you’ll be holding through the whole arc of your turn. Let’s be real, it’s not gonna be excellent if you want to lap the park all day, but that doesn’t rule out some floaty backcountry freestyle when you get the goods.

Construction and Materials

Pop the hood and you’ll find a poplar and aspen core, sandwiched by playful biax laminates. A single carbon stringer runs from the tail to the front insert pack to stiffen up through the length of the board, and to save the tail from washing out when you land back heavy.

This branches out into a V-Shape in the nose, fanning out from the centre of the board to the contact points to channel rider response out to the front of the board. These both soak up excess chatter and aid with grip, especially during turn initiation. This is all finished off with full steel edges and a super slick sintered base for max speed all season long.

Roundup

You might not have seen anything quite like this before, but this is a snowboard that’s been built with the coolest shaping and tech we’ve seen in a while.
