Best Snowboard Protection 2019-2020

Chosen by the Whitelines Test Team

UPDATE: Check out our reviews of the Best Snowboard Protection for 2020/2021 by clicking here.

Protection gear has become increasingly commonplace on the more vulnerable parts of snowboarders young, old, and those in the middle. While in the past they were bulky, heavy things with somewhat of an image problem, the best snowboard protection items of 2019/20 have gotten to the point that they’re so light and comfortable that after a couple of runs it’s easy to forget you’re wearing them.

The chances of seeing your heroes – be they in the park, the backcountry, or even in the streets – riding with some form of the gear on is greater nowadays than ever! However, if you’ve decided this is the season to get protection – or your old stuff has had a hit too many – you can rest safe in the knowledge that there’s a heap of options for you this season.

“However, we’ve had the pleasure of witnessing a lot of different new tech going into the creation of anything from back protection to impact shorts”

People often tend to overlook the importance of protection gear, and so we’re still living in an era of where people argue about whether to wear a helmet or not (the great helmet debate is still raging on – as lively as ever). However, we’ve had the pleasure of witnessing a lot of different new tech going into the creation of anything from back protection to impact shorts.

As for any gear, make sure your protection fits. You don’t want to ride around in anything that’s too big or too small – not only does it make the ride immensely more uncomfortable but it doesn’t protect the parts you’d want to keep from breaking as good as a well-fitting protection gear piece would.

Whether you want to protect your bum from some gnarly bruises, or you’re getting yourself covered for some SBX action, the Whitelines team has listed some of the best snowboard protections of the year.

Have a gander at some of the best snowboard protection for 2019-2020 below, and get down to your local store to find the one that ticks your boxes best.

Force Field Ultra Lite Back Protector 2019-2020

    PRICE: £90

Gone are the days of showing up to the mountains looking like Ross Geller’s Holiday Armadillo. Forecfield’s Ultra Lite Back Protector provides all the impact absorption to make those reverse tacos, knuckle checks and apres stacks all the more bearable.

At only 19.5mm thick, it offers plenty of mobility, flexibility, and breathability. Force Field Pro XV-2 Impact Shorts 2019-2020

    PRICE: £65/€75

More of us than not have experienced the type of fall where you land flat on your arse and it feels like your spine is trying to escape through your mouth. It’s really painful. Forcefield’s latest offering can’t stop you from falling over, but they can cushion the blow. Designed using extra breathable base layer material, and reinforced with pre-curved armour pieces to protect your most vulnerable areas, these impact shorts are the ultimate in booty protection.

They extend round to wrap the hips and coccyx too, so you’re all set to go bombing down the hill. They’re not just for park rats or slalom racers, half the point in protection is to give you peace of mind against other mavericks smashing in to you on the hill. The open mesh covering is more breathable, and lighter than ever before so you’re left with their most comfortable short to date.

SHRED. Flexi Back Protector Lite 2019-2020

    PRICE: €160

It’s hard to find a comfortable back protector as they sometimes have a habit of being slightly too stiff and you end up feeling like C-3PO from Star Wars – not ideal if you ask us. Not to worry though, SHRED.’s made it awfully pleasant for us to shred around with a back protector that actually protects your back while also being comfortable.

The Slytech foam SHRED. has used in the structure of their Flexi Back Protector is super thin and light. In addition to that, it also offers flexibility and certified impact energy absorption performance – basically this thing stays flexible when you ride but, once you crash, stiffens up to protect your back. A winning combo if you ask us.
