Oyuki Sencho Gore Tex Mitts Review

We get hands-on with the Sencho Gore-Tex Mitt from Oyuki to see how it handles the elements.

Oyuki found its footing in the powder snowboarders Mecca – Niseko. So when they told us that the Sencho Gore-Tex Mitts were built to for the deepest days imaginable we had to take them for a test drive and see how they held up.

Why We Chose the Oyuki Sencho Gore-Tex Mitten

In an alternate universe where Cinderella’s entire fate hinged on finding the perfect gloves, these would be the mitts she’d rock to the ball.

Who Are They For?

Inspired by Oyuki’s roots in Niseko, these mitts are designed for riders who prioritise powder days above all else — whether you’re heading into the backcountry, dipping into the sidecountry or just chasing in-bounds refills. They’re perfect for those cold days when the snow’s too good to even consider warming your hands up with a hot-choccy break.

Construction and Materials

The exterior uses premium goatskin leather paired with a Gore-Tex membrane which work together like the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to form a tough, fully waterproof barrier between your pinkies and the elements.

Inside, your hands are treated to a Calamai wool lining that’s naturally moisture-wicking to keep things warm even if conditions get a little damp.

For insulation the back of the hand is stuffed with Primaloft Gold for maximum warmth, while the palm uses Primaloft Eco-Grip which adds extra tactility to keep everything locked in place across a season’s worth of wear.

Fit and Features

Beyond the plush lining and weatherproof shell, you get a solid helping of quality-of-life details:

  • A sturdy wrist leash so you don’t drop a mitt off the lift while doom-scrolling.
  • A Velcro wrist strap to dial in a snug, secure fit.
  • A surprisingly excellent glove clip — not the sexiest feature, but genuinely one of the better ones we’ve seen adorning a pair of mitts.

Round-Up

There’s a lot of tech packed into these humble mitts, and the headline is simple: they’ll keep you warm, dry and comfy all season long. And, thanks to their tough build, they’ll probably still look in great nick come spring, too.

Pros

  • High-quality build maximises performance and durability
  • Free Nikwax included for easy re-proofing when needed

Cons

  • They may run warm in spring — you might prefer a lighter glove once the sun’s out

Tester Verdict

Pat Nichols

I’ve been testing these here in BC in everything from early season storm days to cold groomers, and torrential rain and I’ve been genuinely impressed with how comfortable they are.

They stay warm when they need to, they’ve got enough dexterity to adjust straps and ratchets without a fight, and the palm shows zero signs of early wear — even after an afternoon of hands-down eurocarves, which will destroy a weak glove pretty quickly.

My only thought is that they will likely run a little warm come spring so I might swap out for something leaner come April.
