K2 Snowboarding | 2021-22 Gear Preview

As part of our new Envision Series, we take a first look at K2 Snowboards' new season product line

Welcome to our new Envision Series where we’ll be bringing you the latest gear previews, with some of the most exciting new snowboard, boot, binding, outerwear and goggle products to drop for winter 2021-22. In this Envision episode, we’re taking a look at next year’s lineup from K2.

With everything that’s going on in the world right now, ‘Trade Show Season’ hasn’t quite had the same feel as it has in previous years. On-snow demos and conferences across Europe have been cancelled, and resorts remain closed throughout the continent, but we’ve still managed to chat to our favourite brands and get the scoop on some hot new products for winter 2021/22.

“Keep your eyes peeled for the rad new artist collabs and influences from K2’s Pro Team”

K2 have shaken things up for 2021/22, retiring some classic boards, but injecting a big dose of life into the product line with some fresh new faces. We’re seeing evolution in the line with new tech, shapes and colourways revamping some fan favourites. Keep your eyes peeled for the rad new artist collabs and influences from K2’s Pro Team.

Check out our Envision Series K2 gear preview below, as well as our interview with Sebi Schmitz, Marketing Coordinator Europe, K2 Snowboarding.

K2 Special Effects 140cm 2021-2022

What’s your hero story going forward into the 2021/22 season?
In 21/22 we keep pushing our new Clicker X HB line and extend the boot range here. Freeride is still one of our focuses and we have some great new products coming up in this segment. However, it’s not our only pipeline, Freestyle is the heartbeat of the sport and we have new weapons coming up as well.

Tell us a little about some of your favourite new products…
I am personally stoked about the improvements when it comes to materials and their perfect arrangement on the products. Thanks to Justin our board engineer who is a badass snowboarder as well, you feel his precision and experience in every little inch of our boards. Therefore, I am more than stoked on the World Peace, Special Effects and Excavator.

“The Excavator comes with a Directional Camber Profile and is about to draw a lot attention with a Flex of 7/10”

The Excavator was designed for the new age carver that has to slash every lip in sight on the way to the POW stashes. SnoPhobic Topsheet – Helps eliminate snow build up when it gets deep. ICG™ 10 Carbon Glass – Increases pop, liveliness, and longevity of the snowboard without adding unnecessary rigidity.

Carbon Power Forks – Pre-cambered Carbon in the tail helps to add snap to Ollies, increase edge pressure, and give energy in and out of turns. Bambooyah™ Pro Core – Renewable, Durable, and Aimed to Increase Edge Pressure. Carbon Infused Sintered 5500 Base – The hardest, fastest base that we make – increased wax retention and decreased drag. The Excavator comes with a Directional Camber Profile and is about to draw a lot attention with a Flex of 7/10.

K2 Excavator 2021-2022

This year we thought it was time to retire the World Wide Weapon and give fresh boost into our freestyle section. We need Peace! Voilá: The World Peace. Aspen Core – A single species of wood ensuring a consistent flex pattern, durability, and snap. Biax Glass – A lightweight glass layup at 0 °and 90° for a consistent, smooth flex.

Sintered 4000 Base – Absorbs wax easily for relentless glide and unrivaled durability. This board comes with a twin combination camber profile having little rockers in tip and tail and a Flex 4/10. It´s into small to medium freestyle features like jibs, butters, presses and small to medium jumps. Oh yea and it likes handrails!

Here´s something very special we are very happy about: The Special Effects! This one is the ultimate tight tree pow slasher. The evolution of the Cool Bean, adding 3-D Base Contour increases the flow from edge-to-edge and overall glide of this board. One will be throwing so much spray on this board; people will think its CGI!

Here´s the tech: ICG™ 10 Carbon Glass – Increases pop, liveliness, and longevity of the snowboard without adding unnecessary rigidity. Bambooyah™ Core – Renewable and Stronger than Hell – Comes with a 5 Year Warranty. 3D Contour Nose – 8mm of Contour that gradually blends from the running surface to maintain a predictable ride on hardpack snow and unmatched performance in the soft stuff. Sintered 4000 Base – Absorbs wax easily for relentless glide and unrivaled durability. Directional Rocker Profile with a Flex 7/10. Coming in 4 sizes between 140cm and 152cm and different base color on every size.

“We also have another special collab in the pipeline, so stay tuned”

Any cool artist collabs in the pipeline?
We are lucky enough to work with talented artists like Nick Jensen from London, Marcus Dixon, Sydney or Jeremy Dean from Philadelphia. They gave input in some of our product stories and it turned out very well! We also have another special collab in the pipeline, so stay tuned!

Have any team riders been involved in the R&D process? Where have you been putting these new/improved models to the test?
We love to team up with artists and team riders and benefit from their experience, opinion and input.

This can be seen in several products like Jake Kuzyk´s Freestyle weapon, the “Medium”, the new “Orton” Boot where Sage Kotsenburg had a lot of influence. The Manifest Team is a piece the team was included in a lot.

On the binding segment, we are happy to have Kennedi Deck put her name on a colorway of the Meridian bindings. Our R&D team works very close with the team and their feedback is indispensable.

Covid has shaken up everything this year. Are there any big changes taking place with you guys ahead of next season?

The impact of Covid is undeniable but we are happy and confident with our line to be successful. There are some colorways on the Boot and Binding section we carry forward in order to ease the inventory situation of our retailers and reduce risks here. Our product development and collab plans were luckily not affected and we got all plans done.

“We are planning to get our team back on the screens next year with more global input”

Where can we see updates or changes within the company, not product related?
Within the last seasons, we had the opportunity to add great people to the K2 family like Sage Kotsenburg, Pat Moore, Gabe Ferguson, Steve Gruber or Thomas Delfino and we keep pushing.

I am happy to have girls like Hanne Eilertsen and Loranne Smans new on the Team here in Europe to strengthen our female section. They are great! After our team movie “Big Band” came out, we are planning to get our team back on the screens next year with more global input. We have some highlights cooking!
