There’s been pictures popping up all over the shop of Stylewars, the Australian Championships and the biggest comp of the Aussie calendar. The event organisers claim that this year is the biggest rider list they’ve ever had, and with last year’s winner Tor Lundström and current World Snowboard Tour leader Antoine Thruchon appearing in the start list, we know it’s going to be a heavy hitter.
Due to the above average snowfall that they’ve had at Falls Creek, the course looks ridiculously sick! Check out this picture of Lundström sending a backside 1080 over the gap to claim his his place in the Final’s going down today. If he can keep the consistency he’ll claim a cheeky AU$20,000 for his trouble and the ‘Grandmaster’ title will be his once again.
Interestingly another man to take the Grandmaster title two-years running was Tor’s fellow Scandi Torstein Horgmo – could our man be following in the footsteps of his Scandinavian cousin? Horgmo dominated the Stylewars in 2007 on what at the time was the biggest jump ever seen in competitive snowboarding stomping a massive 1080 over the knuckle of the 120ft jump. We’re wondering whether this year could be equally big for the young Swede.
