O’Neill Evolution Slopestyle gets underway

http://mpora.com/videos/YAlnhg4TQ The O’Neill Evolution, a first six star TTR event of 2011, is well underway in the luxury resort of Davos in Switzerland. In fact, for the whole of the past week, the likes of Seb Toots, Mark McMorris, Gjermund Braaten, IPod and a whole host of others have been throwing themselves over a slopestyle course in practice, alongside the UK’s Jamie Nicholls and Nate Kern. In the women’s comp, the UK is represented by Aimee Fuller, who’s up against the likes of Enni Rukajarvi, Lisa Wiik and Sarka Pancochova.

The slopestyle comp – introduced for the first time this year – takes place over a surprisingly short course, featuring just one kicker and a choice of rails. Interestingly, riders’ overall mark is evenly split between the kicker and the rails, creating the kind of conditions that Jamie, with his Cas-honed rail skills, should have excelled in. Unfortunately, we learned earlier today that Jamie actually overshot the kicker in qualification, injuring himself and effectively ending his competition. Meanwhile Nate Kern, who was riding strongly, unfortunately didn’t manage to make it through his super-competitive heat. Aimee Fuller however qualified in style and will be flying the flag for the UK in tomorrow’s finals. Get in!
