Nike’s Never Not – The Sounds of Snowboarding

Our sense of hearing is definitely one we often take for granted.

Sound adds context and atmosphere to visual images and we’d perceive the world in a very different way if we were without it.

The effect that sound has within the experience of snowboarding is of course, no different. Can you imagine not being able to hear the satisfying click of your binding ratchets, or the sound that snow makes when you break through a layer of crystallised powder? The overall experience just wouldn’t be the same.

Nike have clued onto this fact and released this artsy edit as part of their Never Not series focusing on the different sounds in snowboarding – from the car engines in bustling urban environments to the wind rushing through the pine trees in the backcountry.

Interestingly, this edit is remarkably similar in style and execution to the 100 days in 100 seconds edit that DBK recently released. It’s understated, stripped back and visceral and if we’re being honest, we could probably watch a good half-hour of it…

Next time we’re out riding, let’s all make a point of switching off our iPods and tuning into the sounds around us – it may just be the most complete day of riding we’ve had in a while!
