John Jackson will be familiar to everyone in the snowboard scene thanks to his starring role in The Art of Flight. He’s the dreadlocked hippy in the stripy jacket with a penchant for massive jumps in Alaska. His brother Eric Jackson is less well-known, especially on these shores, but make no mistake he is a shit-hot snowboarder in his own right, while that impressive beard is a dead giveaway that he shares a similarly laid-back attitude. The two brothers are four years apart (Eric is the younger one) and grew up shredding and fly fishing outside Mammoth Mountain in California. Now the pair have embarked on a new TV Show, Brothers on the Run, which will see them join forces for a 15,000 mile road trip from Alaska to Chile, mixing snowboarding with a little surf, climbing and fishing. As the tag-line says, it’s about “adventuring on two continents.” Viewers of the recent Red Bull Supernatural TV Show will recognize the smooth (if slightly cheesy) voiceover of presenter Sal Masakela, which together with the staged ‘planning’ scenes lend this documentary a distinctly American/Only Way is Essex feel. Episode 1 also seems to be an experiment in how many different ways the crew can say that “John Jackson is a professional snowboarder” and that “they’re going from Alaska to Chile”. Just how retarded do the makers think the audience is? Don’t answer that. Nevertheless, with two such sick riders in the starring role and some pretty sick mountains to cover this promises to be worth a watch. And did we tell you they’re gonna be going all the way from ALASKA to CHILE?!
