Billabong Ante Up 2011 – Eric Willett wins!

Eric Willett continued his meteoric rise in competitive snowboarding by scooping first prize at the Billabong Ante Up big air in Whistler over the weekend. Eric, who took us through the course beforehand, pulled a switch backside double cork 1260 out of the bag in average conditions to walk off with a deserved win. Just look at that landing – 99 riders out of 100 would have slipped out on the heel edge, but somehow Eric holds it and rides away.

Defending champion Seb Toots went for a trick he can seemingly do in his sleep, the cab double cork 1260. While his was arguably cleaner and tighter than Eric’s, the judges awarded Seb second place. We’re guessing the decision favoured Eric due to him throwing a more difficult trick.

Taking third spot was the unknown (on these shores, anyway) Dash Kamp. Dash has a younger brother called Kix, making them the wierdest-named siblings we’ve come across since hearing about this controversial Canadian family. Although maybe it’s to be expected when your dad’s name is Slate…. Strange name or not, Dash has bags of style and thumped down a super smooth backside double cork 1080 to make the podium. Considering that he bested Chas Guldemond, Sage Kotsenburg and Gjermund Braaten to get there, it’s fair to assume this isn’t the last time we’ll be seeing him.
