It’s an oft-repeated statistic that Finland has more pro-snowboarders per head of population than any other country. The standard over there is so ridonkulously high that sometimes it seems like literally every person in the country is a sick shredder.
Even if they’re not (we imagine there are over-60s who haven’t got their cab three switch nosepresses dialled yet for example) there are certainly a hell of a lot of good riders. As this full-length movie – featuring largely unsponsored riders – shows, superstars like Peetu Piiroinen and Eero Ettala are just the tip of the fuck-off massive ice-berg of Finnish talent.
The crew, who call themselves the BNGR Mob, consists of includes Antti Komulainen, Joonas Eloranta, Lasse Ihalainen, Samu Mikkonen and Tatu Toivanen. Incredibly, this is apparently their first movie. Not only is the riding off the hook, but the filming and editing (by Pyry Lepistö) is pretty tight too.
If they came from anywhere else, we wouldn’t be surprised to see any or all of these boys sponsored up to the eyeballs, but I guess competition is stiffer in Finland. Still, if they keep putting out movies like this, who’s to say they won’t be in a few year’s time?
